Suspended Solids refers to small solid particles that remain in suspension in water. The measurement of suspended solids is one way of gauging water quality.
Suspended Solids can be made up of both organic material and inorganic material depending on the location, and while high levels can occur naturally in some streams and bodies of water, generally a lower measurement is best for healthy water.
Monitoring Suspended Solids in wastewater and industrial process water can be useful for either process control or for alarming of unusual conditions. Badger Meter provides industry-leading, reliable and accurate real-time monitoring of suspended solids for a variety of water and wastewater applications.
In biological treatment systems, monitoring suspended solids in the aeration tank can assist operators in maintaining optimum MLSS (Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids) concentration. In industrial clarifier’s, suspended solids water quality monitoring can warn of upset conditions that might result in the discharge of solids that exceed plant permits.
