Badger Meter To Highlight Benefits of Smart Water Solutions for Small and Rural Utilities at WaterPro 2023

Badger Meter offers smart water solutions for water and wastewater utilities of all sizes and locations. Visit our team in booth 422 during the National Rural Water Association's WaterPro 2023 conference and exhibition.
MILWAUKEE, Wis., SEPTEMBER 19, 2023 – Badger Meter will showcase smart water solutions for rural and small water and wastewater utilities in booth 422 during the National Rural Water Association's WaterPro 2023 conference and exhibition, September 25–26 in Aurora, Colo.

Badger Meter offers the widest range of smart metering solutions, which help utilities to reduce cost, mitigate risk, improve customer satisfaction, enhance sustainability and gain visibility across the entire water cycle. Its cellular AMI systems are backed by top-tier cellular carriers, providing utilities with limited staff and vast service areas with differentiated benefits. This includes eliminating the need for utility-owned infrastructure by using the existing cellular network to handle communication.

The company’s E-Series G2® Ultrasonic meters offer low-flow capture and long-term accuracy for residential and commercial applications. These meters present consumption, rate of flow, reverse-flow indication and alarms, and some models even offer pressure and temperature data, so utilities can proactively manage water systems.

In addition to its smart metering portfolio, Badger Meter provides cutting-edge water quality and pressure monitoring solutions. Real-time monitoring of a variety of parameters within water distribution networks enables water utilities to increase water protection and security, prevent risk to human health and the environment, and comply with drinking water standards and regulations.

Expert Education

During WaterPro, Patrick Williamson, Solution Architect at Badger Meter, will discuss how technological advancements in metering, meter reading technologies and cloud computing can provide insights and actionable data. Join him on Monday, September 25, at 11 a.m., for "Dark Territory: Extending your Metering System Beyond Billing into Operations" and learn how easily accessible, scalable information can transform utility operations and enhance customer experience.

Smart Water in Action

Alpha-Talbott Utility District

Alpha-Talbott Utility District (the District) in Tennessee provides high-quality drinking water to nearly 7,000 people in Hamblen and Jefferson Counties. As a long-time customer of Badger Meter, the District uses ORION® CE in its AMR system. Data viewed in BEACON® Software as a Service (SaaS) allows the District to automatically capture water consumption and status data from the water meters.

The District also uses BEACON to gain greater visibility into, control of and optimized information about its water distribution network.

“We have been using meters from Badger Meter exclusively for 15 years. They have been a game-changer for us living in a rural area,” Phillip Combs, general manager of the Alpha-Talbott Utility District said. “These meters are easily installed, data-driven with accuracy and provide our customers with information to detect leaks and promote water conservation.”

Aurora Water

Aurora Water serves Aurora, Colorado, the third most populous city in the state. As part of its efforts to continually improve its water system, Aurora Water began a meter replacement project in spring 2019, upgrading 90,000 meters to cellular AMI from Badger Meter.

With the amount and frequency of data provided by AMI, Aurora Water has better information about water usage patterns across the city, which has enhanced the utility's ability to design, maintain and improve its water system. In addition, eliminating the need to read meters every month using trucks with receivers has enabled Aurora Water to operate more efficiently and reduce its carbon footprint.

"With the data availability that we didn't have before, we have been able to go from a monthly read to 15-minute interval reads and can start to build algorithms that look at use patterns within our system," said Timothy York, Water Conservation Manager, Aurora Water. "With that data, we can assign values for flow over a given amount and within a specific timeframe to better manage resources during Colorado's drought conditions."

Whether your utility serves a few hundred customers or millions, there is a smart metering solution that is right for you. Badger Meter can help build a customized offering that's tailored for any water utility, no matter its size or location. Learn more at badgermeter.com/waterpro.
