Open Channel Flow Meters

Open Channel flow meters measure level, flow rate and total volume of water flowing through weirs, flumes, channels and partially filled pipes. These meters perform best where the sediment does not build up.

Open Channel Flow Meters

Streamlined Open Design. Impressively Accurate Measurements.

Open Channel flow meters are an economical and reliable solution that can retain a historical log of all measurements.

  • Economical Solution. This single metering solution is simple to set up and can measure level, flow rate and total volume in your application.
  • Reliable Performance. Designed to measure level, flow rate and total volume of water utilizing a non-contact ultrasonic level sensor that delivers impressive accuracy.
  • Monitor Data. Ensures all the measurements are available over Modbus RTU or logged in a historical database for convenience.

Measuring Principle

Open Channel flow meters measure level, flow rate and total volume of water flowing through weirs, flumes, channels and partially filled pipes. The flow meters use a non-contact level sensor to detect the water level and then calculate the flow rate and volume using the Manning equation and characteristics of the channel.

Dynasonics®

Dynasonics® Ultrasonic meters measure flow rate by propagating ultrasound waves into liquid-filled pipes and measuring the reflections. With either transit time or Doppler technology, these clamp-on ultrasonic meters reside outside the pipe, providing flexibility across a wide range of pipe sizes, no pressure head loss, no contact with internal liquid and no moving parts to maintain.
