providing sustainability improvements at Lusail Stadium
is the largest of all eight World Cup stadiums in Qatar
Badger Meter are pleased to announce that we were able to contribute to improvements in sustainability for the newly opened Lusail Stadium, venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™.
The Lusail Stadium is the largest of all eight World Cup stadiums in Qatar with a capacity of 80,000 spectators and the arena that will host most of the matches, including the opening and closing of the 2022 football tournament.
Due to the hot and dry climate as well as the low availability of groundwater, Qatar's water needs are met by desalinating seawater, making the resource limited and especially precious in the region.
It is critically important to measure water flow in the impressive Lusail Stadium in order to check system integrity and prevent and detect inefficiencies or leakages.
In addition, energy and water consumption costs carry a heavy weight in major public buildings such as stadiums, so metering data is essential to provide guidance for future facility management decisions.
Our client approached Badger Meter to find the ideal meter for monitoring chilled water consumption. By deploying the services of the Badger Meter office and service centre in Dubai, over 100 Dynasonics® TFX-5000 ultrasonic clamp-on flow meters were installed by our expert technicians in the Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
Using Dynasonics® clamp-on no invasive ultrasonic flow technology, it was possible to install the meters on the running system without having to make pipe interventions or requiring a shut down.
Using standard silicone for a hard rubber connection to the line, so maintaining reliable long term measurements, the ultrasonic flow meter sensors are attached to the outside of pipes.
The sensor design is optimised to provide installation advantages in the quick and easy installation, but also in the long term robust measurement. Due to the Dynasonics® TFX-5000 having no moving parts, there is no need for maintenance or replacement parts throughout the life of the meter, and therefore no additional maintenance or service costs.
The meter is available in a variety of configurations in order to meet the particular application requirements for measuring volumetric flow rates containing clean liquids as well as liquids with small amounts of suspended solids, such as surface water or raw sewage. Additionally, the flow meter supports an encoder output for use with the Badger Meter Orion cellular endpoints for connecting to the AquaCUE® or BEACON® ADVANCED Metering Analytics (AMA) cloud-based software suite.
With the support of Dynasonics® TFX-5000 ultrasonic clamp-on flow meters, the Lusail Stadium has implemented an accurate and reliable flow measurement solution to have visibility and control over energy and water consumption.
